Overview
The summit will bring together teachers, educators, agency and organization staff, and interested community members to share assets in Applied Science, Service Learning & Environmental Literacy. Teachers will receive integrated curriculum resources, funding information, contacts with agency and organization partners for classroom and schoolyard visits as well as field trips, and service learning project ideas. Concurrent workshop sessions will be offered throughout the day, as well as whole-group presentations and a resource sharing fair.
Keynote
Dr. Art Sussman, famous science educator, will present his Planet Earth Show as a keynote and also offer a workshop for people particularly interested in science education.
Dr. Art Sussman explains the Big Ideas in science to help teachers and students understand and enjoy science. Dr. Art shows the connections among these big ideas, and how this big idea framework helps learners understand and remember required science content. As part of his work, he helped California, Nevada, and Utah develop and implement high quality science education standards. These standards guide science instruction for millions of K-12 students.
Sussman received his PhD in biochemistry from Princeton University. He pursued scientific research at Oxford University, Harvard Medical School, and the University of California at San Francisco.

Registration
Registration is open to teachers, school staff, other educators and all interested community members.
- Online registration must have been completed by 12:00 midnight on Friday, October 10. You may register at the door (below).
- Mail registration must have been postmarked by Monday, October 6, so is no longer available. You may register at the door (below).
- Phone: We cannot accept registration by phone since we cannot accept credit cards by phone, but you may ask questions by phone - see contact information below.
- At the Door: On a space-available basis, registration will be offered at the door, the day of the event. Registration at the door will be $40, regular, or $20, AmeriCorps. Payment must be by check, cash or money order. We cannot accept credit cards or purchase orders at the door. If registration numbers are approaching our limit, we will provide an update on this page and you may call to confirm that space is available.
We have a refund policy.
AmeriCorps members whose responsibilties relate directly to the topic of the summit may register for $10, which is the approximate cost of the lunch and snacks. Mail and online registration is now closed, and you must register at the door. We will ask you to assist with the event in some small manner such as setup, cleanup, check-in, food and beverage service, or other tasks.
Presenters: If you are attending only for your own presentation, roundtable hosting or lunchtime open exhibit, you do not need to register. However, if you are attending any of the remainder of the summit, including lunch, you must register. Everyone is registering for this summit, even the summit organizers.

Lunch and Snacks
Lunch will be provided as part of the registration fee, catered by a local Incline Village business. Either all lunches will be vegetarian, or vegetarian lunches will be available for those who state vegetarian at the time of registration. If you have a more restricted diet, you may wish to bring your own lunch.
Snacks and beverages will be provided during check-in and registration, and during a morning and afternoon break.
Please bring a refillable water bottle and a mug. We will not be providing bottled water nor disposable cups, in order to reduce waste. If you forget, Tahoe Rim Trail Association will be offering bike bottles ($1) and TRTA logo mugs ($5) for sale, cash or check only.
Location
The summit will be held at the Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences. The center, located on the campus of Sierra Nevada College campus in Incline Village, is a platinum LEED certified building. The address is 291 Country Club Dr, Incline Village NV 89451.
