Information for Exhibitors
The Tahoe Environmental Literacy Summit, to be held Saturday, October 11, 2008 at the Tahoe Center for Environmental Sciences in Incline Village, is seeking exhibitors. During our working lunch, 12:00 noon to 1:00PM, various agencies, organizations, and businesses will be able to showcase their education activities.
You can set up your exhibit as early as 8:30AM, and leave it up as late as 6:00PM, but what we really want to emphasize is that one hour period of lunch. You need not be with your exhibit except during the lunch period. The main summit starts at 9:00AM and continues through 4:30PM, but there will be a social mixer and networking follow-on from 4:30 to 6:00PM. You may not leave materials in the exhibit area once you leave - it is awkward for the conference organizers to keep or dispose of the these materials - so whenever you leave, all your materials should go with you.
Exhibit tables will be set up in the lobby/education area on the first floor of the Tahoe Center. Each table is about 2x4 feet. You may place displays or materials on the table, or place standing displays behind the table, or simply use a standing display. Opportunities for electrical power are limited, so you must let us know ahead of time if you need power. No exhibits will be set up in the plenary and workshop rooms.
The purpose of the summit is to bring together teachers, educators, agency and organization staff, and interested community members to share assets in applied science, service-learning, and environmental literacy. The materials that would be of the most interest to participants are therefore related to service-learning projects and educational outreach. Though some people might be interested in the science and resource management background and the role of your employer, the main interest will be in education. Curriculum materials, summaries of outreach programs, and photos of students working to monitor and restore will be of the most interest.
The real resource, however, is you. Please be prepared to share information, talk, listen, question. Bring your business cards, or a summary of your activities with contact information on it. Have some way of capturing the contact information of people who want to talk to you more or work with you.
There are no restrictions on whether you can sell things at your exhibit, but this should not be the main aspect of what you are offering.
If you wish to eat lunch during this time, either bring your own or register for the summit. We will not have extra food for exhibitors unless they have registered. We welcome you to participate in the rest of the event, but again, you will need to register. With our very low registration fee of $20 and a nationally known keynote and workshop presenter Dr. Art Sussman, we simply don’t have the funds to offer freebies to anyone. Friday at noon is the deadline for registering online (at www.4swep.org).
