Tahoe-Truckee Service Learning Partnership
The Tahoe-Truckee Service Learning Partnership (TTSLP) is a formal partnership of the Tahoe-Truckee Unified School District (TTUSD), Sierra Watershed Education Parnterships (SWEP), TAO Education, and Adopt-A-Watershed (AAW) which supports service-learning and place-based learning throughout the district and its service area of Truckee, Tahoe City, Kings Beach and other communities.
The major activities of the partnerships include:
- a mini-grant program to teachers for monitoring, restoration and community education projects
- working with principals and schools to encourage the inclusion of service-learning and place-based learning (or, as we are calling it, place-based service learning) concepts and activites in school site plans
- providing a voice for the academic and civic benefits of service-learning and place-based learning throughout the region
- a Site Advocate program in which one or more teachers at each school take on responsibiltity for disseminating information from the partnership to teachers and staff at the school, and communicating needs and concerns back to the partnership
- provision of professional development opportunities to the district through SWEP workshops and CalServe trainings and conferences
- participation in the science curriculum refinement process which is a partnership between the district and the Eastern Sierra Institute for Collaborative Education (ESICE)
- work with the district's Youth Council and other elements of the district's Youth and Community Services
- bi-annual partnership meeting which celebrate existing partnerships which support service-learning and place-based learning, and create opportunties for new partnerships and projects
- making information on successful service learning projects in the district and region to all teachers thorugh a database
The partnership is coordinated by the TTSLP Management Team, which includes representatives from the four major partners and other partners.
