New members to the SWEP Team!!

SWEP is excited to announce that we have two new members of our team!  Shannon Keener, SWEP Environmental Field Instructor and Shireen Karimi, SNAP Americorps will be supporting  SWEP’s mission and we are so grateful to have them.  Here is a little more about each of them:

Shannon Keener

IMG_0690My name is Shannon Keener and I am from California and have grown up visiting Lake Tahoe during all seasons throughout my life. Thus, began my love for Tahoe and the Sierras. Before moving to Lake Tahoe, I spent 5 years teaching environmental education in the Santa Cruz mountains surrounded by giant Redwoods. I received my environmental studies degree from the University of Oregon, so needless to say I love the outdoors and exploring forests.  It is my passion to give students of all ages the opportunity to be out in nature learning about the world and environment we live in.  I believe that water and all other natural resources the Earth provides are pure treasures.  In the future it is important that the younger generation is passionate about preserving and conserving them.  I am so happy to become a part of the SWEP team and reach out to students in the Tahoe-Truckee region. We all learn something everyday, so let’s make it something spectacular!

Shireen Karimi

I’m Shireen and I’m the current Americorps member working with SWEP!  I am from Southern California but consider “home” as the Sierra Nevada range.  Most of my summers consisted of camping trips in Yosemite Valley and Tuolumne Meadows. This is where my passion for the outdoors began.  I have a passion for preservation and a great connection to the outdoors.  I pursued an Environmental Studies degree from the University of San Diego and graduated May of 2017.  During my time at school I studied abroad with The School for Field Studies in Peru and found a new passion for teaching and promoting environmental stewardship.  I am inspired by the curious minds of kids and seeks to educate both kids and adults about the importance of our ever changing environments and how we can protect the places we explore and play in.
