What is this program? SWEP assists TTUSD by managing the waste management subscription services with the Tahoe Truckee Sierra Disposal (TTSD). SWEP’s work helps ensure that the school district benefits through cost savings related to waste reduction and by reducing the environmental impacts associated with operating a large school district in a mountain community. This includes managing dumpster services as well as waste diversion services (recycling) offered through TTSD.
How does this program work? SWEP staff conduct waste management check-ins at all TTUSD school sites. The purpose of these site check-ins is to assess the waste management subscription services to ensure adequate service. SWEP also works with TTUSD to guarantee that as much waste as possible is diverted from the landfill. To do this, SWEP works with TTUSD facilities department, school site, administration and custodial staff as well as with teachers and students to make sure that waste diversion systems are in place and functioning efficiently.
